As I awake we are sailing through the Drake Passage where the Pacific, Atlantic, and eventually the Southern Oceans meet. It is one of the roughest crossings in the world. I have spent most of the morning preparing gear and attending meetings with the crew and the Expedition team to prepare us for tomorrow.
6 PM - Drake Passage
We have just crossed the Antarctic Convergence and are now in the Southern Ocean. So far the trip has been a bit rough so we have not seen any baleen whales, only a few seabirds off in the distance. The crew and I get an early start time for tomorrow so it is off to bed. Tomorrow, Deception Island in the South Shetland Island chain.
