Brent Stewart is a Senior Research Biologist with the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI) in San Diego, California. Dr. Stewart has been a member of the HSWRI staff since 1977. Brent's research on the demography and foraging ecology of marine mammals, seabirds, and whale sharks has stretched from remote areas of the Bering and Beauforth Seas, the North Atlantic, northwest Greenland, Iceland, Russia, the Antarctic (Weddell, Admundsen, Ross seas and throughout the Antarctic Peninsula), the northwest Hawaiian Islands, the Sea of Cortez, to areas nearer to home one the Southern California Channel Islands. He has earned a Bachelor or Arts degree (Biology; 1977) from the University of California at Los Angeles, a Master of Sciences (Ecology; 1981) degree from San Diego State University, a Doctor of Philosophy (Biology; 1989) from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a Juris Doctorate (Law; 1997) from the University of California at Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Biology at the University of San Diego and a Research Associate of San Diego State University.

Pam Yochem has been with the Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute since 1977, beginning as a volunteer while an undergraduate at San Diego State University. She is now the Vice President in charge of Research and a senior research biologist. She completed a master's degree in ecology at San Diego State University in 1987. In 1992, she obtained the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine with wildlife emphasis from the University of California at Davis, School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Yochem is chairperson of the Institute's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee. Current research projects include: health assessment of Antarctic pack ice seals and pinnipeds of Southern California Bight, and reproductive physiology of pinnipeds.
